The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on strike motion by November if the Federal Government goes forward to withhold the October wage of Lecturers over their refusal to enrol within the ‘new’ cost system known as Integrated Personnel Payment Information System (IPPIS).

This was coming after the Accountant General of the Federation last week mentioned the staff of any university that didn’t enrol in IPPIS wouldn’t be paid their October salaries.

ASUU Threatens Strike Following Face-off With The Federal Government Over IPPIS
The Nigerian government adopted the IPPIS as a centralised cost system in an effort to block leakages and curb corruption and has mandated all Federal ministries, departments and agencies of presidency together with Federal University Lecturers to be enrolled within the system. Nevertheless, the lecturers are saying there are enough inbuilt measures within the present construction of the college system ” that’s able to checkmating corruption”.

Based on ASUU, imposing IPPIS on universities is just not solely a violation of college legal guidelines, particularly the hard-earned autonomy, “it’s a relegation of the federal authorities’s settlement with ASUU.” because it willcost federal universities their “hard-earned autonomy.”

Talking on the deliberate strike, the ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator for Bauchi zone, Lawal Abubakar mentioned that the zone have already got a standing order of ‘no wage no work’ which implies the members wouldn’t flip up for work ought to they not obtain their wage alerts on the final day of the month.

On how the IPPIS could have an effect on lecturers, Abubakar mentioned “the college could now not be capable to help a lecturer who has points with both his analysis allowances, or his hire allowance or his retirement advantages, as a result of such a lecturer must journey to Abuja earlier than she or he can get that executed. However the college system is just too dynamic for such delays and bottleneck.

“Secondly, the college system is so versatile {that a} lecturer could determine to disengage from service at any time. So ought to such a scenario arises, and a vice-chancellor whose college has misplaced its autonomy must get alternative, will need to have to undergo some places of work in Abuja; and when such officers would insist they’ve their candidate included within the listing. A VC that rejects this must endure the implications of future denials of approvals, ” he mentioned.

“Nobody can drive ASUU to signal into IPPIS as a result of the system requires us to fill the shape, get our biometric information captured earlier than one will be within the cost system.”

“We’re not going to do this. And may they withhold our salaries, there’s a standing instruction that we don’t present up for work a day after the final day of the month,” he mentioned.
